Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango!

Well, as OP mentioned, and others have speculated in the official syncthing forums, apparently catfriend1 did a repository reset where they wiped everything and started over something like three times last year. So that’s still a possibility. I’m going to wait until more information comes out or until catfriend1 doesn’t come back after a month or two before I start worrying about the future of the project. Worth finding anyone who had backed up the most recent version of the repository though, just in case.

It wasn’t worth it at all. The ACA was the legislation that defined the entire Democrat platform this millennium. Even when it was watered down from what we had hoped (Fuck you, Joe Leiberman), it still was far better than nothing. Personally, the ACA keeps me alive. It massively expanded access to health insurance, especially for the poorest who now could get healthcare without as much worry about it impacting their finances. Letting these subsidies die is essentially letting the ACA die, it’s just one more step to repealing it entirely to be replaced with nothing at all, because we know the reason the Republicans won’t show us what their healthcare plans are because they don’t exist or are so fucking evil that they don’t want to share them until they’ve already rammed them through.
The DNC has fucking ruined the party by focusing far more on their own personal power within the system rather than helping people. Pro-tip, kneeling in kente cloths was never going to stop black Americans from being mindlessly murdered by a largely white supremacist police force. Doing nothing about the police, and in fact giving them more funding is part and parcel to why we see so many police departments not just not protecting their citizens from ICE, but actively helping ICE terrorize their communities. Thanks, Biden, handing those cops a shitload more money really worked out, huh?

yeah catfriend1 was technically in charge of syncthing-fork before the original syncthing stopped being developed. catfriend1 in other words essentially just continued development on their fork on their own, which kept syncthing alive.

I have so many reasons to not use Kagi.

RSS support is absolutely my favorite old-web thing that’s still around. It truly is fantastic to have your own curated RSS feeds.
The Fediverse specifically lets you create them really granularly as well!

Misleading title.
There are indeed “weird blogs” they just have to be devoid of capitalist funding.
Corey Doctorow’s Pluralistic seems in many ways to be a natural extension of his BoingBoing days albeit a bit more serious than the lighthearted BoingBoing.
MetaFilter fully became a non-profit and still retains a more a blog-esque format than it’s contemporaries.
Mother Jones has a strong online presence and has avoided the capitalist machine for it’s entire existence.
The thing is (and the more important part of this story is) that submitting to the capitalist machine is to submit to its machinations and unwillingness to adhere to the age-old social contract of a business producing profit to be sufficient enough for a business to exist. Modern capitalism is indeed a shell-game of extracting maximum value, essentially truly squeezing blood from a stone until the stone no longer even exists. Anyone who willingly plays this game will be bitten by this game, unless they themselves become ruthless capitalists and focus all their energy on shell-game chicanery over producing actual products, services, or content. There is no end-game here where the plucky capitalist-minded business-owner can overcome all and become the master of their own domain. The few who have (Valve, for example) had a solid financial footing to begin their more unique forays into profit-driving and they have stayed independent companies instead of publicly owned companies. That alone has saved them, and most of them (again, like Valve) started in an era before the behemoth of VC (Vulture/Vampire Capitalism) took hold, and made their early profits soon enough to not need such outside funding. Starting such a company today? Without outside funding? Get real. You’d have to be someone like Gabe Newell, who exited Microsoft with enough money to take a risk to make a profit of his own without needing outside stake, and the number of Gabe Newell’s exiting industry to make their own goes at new business are exceedingly rare. The ones that actually succeed in making a profitable company are even rarer.
In capitalist America, the “free market” binds you and dictates your future.
I am Error.

Well I mean it stands to reason you’re most likely arguing with paid actors using Persona Management software to have hundreds of such conversations in unison, so it’s a moot point because they’re being paid to prevent minds from being changed on subject X.
Honestly I feel like AI progression was just a cover for what was originally updated Persona Management where the human has to do even less to keep the consensus cracking and topic dilution ongoing.
I’m adding this one to my dad joke repertoire.

Potentially even one or two tech companies that have been around for decades depending on how large it gets before that burst.
Please be Microsoft, please be Microsoft, please be Microsoft.

Compassion for the vulnerable and weak.

The iPod was genuinely dope in first and second generation.

I mean, I don’t disagree, but Google is just as awful and most people only really have a choice between an Android phone and an iPhone so not “supporting” one or the other isn’t really an option for most people who, you know, want a phone.
Linux phones need a lot of improvement and growth before they can be a functional replacement for either of those, sadly.

Remember when it was viewed as not appropriate to write stories about Apple’s tax dodging because Tim Cook came out as gay, and how important and brave he was.
Remember that Apple, and specifically Tim Cook, has bent over for Trump over and over, including helping fund his bullshit ass ballroom?
Maybe we should accept that absurdly rich gay white men can be just as big of shitbirds as absurdly rich straight white men and just as willing to sell out their own countrymen and their own sexual identity community.

Never believe that corporations ever cared about pesky things like human rights or that all human lives have value.
No, corporations started hiring and selling products to women, to people of color, to LGBTQ+ groups because it made them more money. They never cared about any of these groups at all or their rights. They just knew that not hiring the best workers from each group and not being willing to sell them products was leaving money on the table. They wanted that money more than they wanted to openly exhibit how racist, misogynist, and homophobic they are.
So really the decision here follows from that exact same logic. They hid behind neutrality while keeping the person who made them more money. As sad as it is to say, this is the same logic that got them to accept and sell products to these groups to begin with. In the end, it’s literally always been about money and nothing else. They hide behind lofty values as a PR move, and nothing else deeper than that. It’s always just been propaganda to increase profits.
The only color they care about is green.

I wonder if this will just make them return bitcoin as an option to pay. It’s been 8 years since they dropped it and it has fewer large fluctuations now, it seems.
Please let’s stop letting the Republicans frame every piece of language and every conversation with how they define things. You’re letting them dictate reality when you do that and change your language to placate them. By bending to their definitions you’re essentially proving to others that their definitions are somehow correct, and allowing them to continue to frame the narrative. You’re giving them power over the conversation. Please can we stop doing that and letting their abuse of language control how we speak? It’s deeply clear from the context of the rest of my comment that it is not a Republican framing. They don’t believe in words or use them responsibly so trying to route around their chicanery doesn’t actually do anything except let them frame the argument.
Further, it’s a fucking comment on the internet. I’m not a journalist, I am allowed to have bad grammar. Fucking grammar police over here. If that’s really all you have to contribute to the conversation: how about you just don’t instead?
