Considering the last thread, you’ve got a real White Knight thing going for this genocide enabler. Would you care so much if the officer were a man?
Do you care this much about the thousands of dead and injured men, women, and children that lay at the feet of these weapons manufacturers?
Take a step back and look at this story rationally, not emotionally. Put it in the context of a government hell bent on breaking legal norms, and against the advice of Amnesty International, Liberty, and UN experts, by proscribing this organisation. A government currently being taken to court for that action and struggling with public perception after multiple national protests.
This is an attempt to manufacture consent for authoritarianism in the UK and genocide in the Middle East. An attempt to wrongly justify proscribing a direct action protest group as terrorist. Much the same way as Israel calls anything it dislikes as Hamas, our government are trying to suppress whatever it doesn’t like as terrorist.
Is it shit for the individual cop? Of course. But 3 months off for a back injury is pretty mild as back injuries go and nothing compared to the death, despair, and devastation that the company they were defending causes every day.
The police releasing footage like this during an active trial is also quite strange. How can this not be viewed as trying to tamper with the jury when it’s in every headline, spin doctored for the greatest views, clicks, and engagement possible? It was only released to the jury like 2 days ago, now edited clips of it are all over the corporate press.
If you’ve read the previous thread I posted then you would have read my previous comments. Assuming you understood what I said (I doubt it given your reply) you’ll understand that I don’t condone genocide but I also don’t condone violent attacks using sledgehammers. It’s not difficult for me. Don’t genocide. Don’t attack people with sledgehammers.
You’ll have noted from your thread reading that I also said feel free to smash the property up of Elbit Systems. I don’t have an issue with that. But after you’ve done that why is it necessary to violently attack someone to make your point? There’s no logic in this unless you’re happy to live in a perpetually violent society (maybe you are).
No, I don’t want a perpetually violent society. Hence why I don’t support the violence department of a government which is supporting genocide.
I don’t know about you, but all I’ve seen and found is edited clips from media organisations of this footage. I’ve seen no raw footage from start to finish. Does that exist in the public realm? Do we know that they attacked the cops and that the cops didn’t start with the violence? Because from the clip in your link a protestor slips on their bum, a cop has a sledgehammer in their hand, and shoves the protestor to the ground again when they get up. Who started it? At what point does being on the receiving end of the goon squad of a genocide supporting government count as self defence? Cops have a history of escalation and violence so without raw footage I’m loathe to give them the benefit of the doubt.
These protestors will, I’m sure, also have been highly aware of the violence perpetrated by police regularly, do you not think there’s therefore a human element of fear and adrenaline in that moment?
Unfortunately in a country of 65 million people, people are assaulted relatively regularly. Why is this specific example being pushed so hard in the news if not to manufacture consent for proscription? Why are the police releasing the footage now when there’s an active trial happening? Since when did possible GBH and destruction of property count as terrorism?
After watching the footage several times the only clear violent events that take place involve the blonde bloke wearing the hard hat.
Toward the beginning of the video one of the cops very clearly uses the handle end of a sledgehammer to hit him in the face. He then walks off, clearly stunned by the assault while the police tackle one of the other protesters to the ground. Then, after recovering from the attack the blonde guy returns and swings the sledgehammer at one of the cops on the ground.
My take on this is that the cop should be suspended immediately and sacked for using excessive force, but the bloke he hit should be charged with attempted murder, or at least aggravated assault. You can’t swing a sledgehammer like that at anyone, whether it be a cop or not, for any reason and expect to walk free, furthermore the cop was clearly lying on his back and pretty much defenceless at the time.
That being said, do I agree with the protesters actions and intentions otherwise? Fuck yes. Fuck Elbit, fuck Israel, fuck the complicit UK government and fuck the police.
Edit: Actually the cop hits two of them with the sledgehammer handle. The guy with the Keffiyeh round his waist THEN the guy in the hard hat. Clearly a cunt, but that still doesn’t excuse swinging a sledgehammer at him while he’s on his back.
I suppose that police officer smashed her own spine as well. The lengths these cops go to eh? Fucking bastards.
