This sentence is translated from Chinese, so the wording may be suboptimal.

I’m ready to get loads of downvotes for posting this one.

  • 「弱勢族群對偏見敏感。」

Wow, the original sounds like something my mom would say to me. Feels so much worse.

The 族 feels really… idk it feels very insulting for some reason. Like you know as in the so-called “啃老族”, the 族 feels so… like it “others” you. Like, it uses other people’s failures as a reference point, like “see those losers are the [X]族, you don’t wanna be like them do you?”

Then anytime your parent wanna insult you, they throw you into that category of people. To make you feel bad because “you now part of the inferior group”, because your parents said so.

Lile that sounds so toxic you cannot even fix the phrase by adding “for good reasons”, I mean, its literally using 弱 “weak” as one of the characters.

Like parents always tell you to 堅強 or some shit, if a boy cries, you aren’t a 男子漢大丈夫,流汗不流淚 anymore, you are a “懦夫”, “弱者”. Showing expressions is not allowed. Emotions is weakness.

I mean of course I’d feel vulnerable and sensitive to insults. Because its literally an attack from within.

Like… there’s a power dynamic at play. The parent is always more powerful, so in this case, the child is literally 弱 “weak”. Of course their parents opinions are more sensitive to them.

Not only I have to handle bullying and racism, I also have to handle my own birthparents using toxic language against me. Attacked from both sides. What the hell.

      確實,用「弱勢群體」會比較好聽,因為「群體」一詞還沒有遭受汙染。「族」字通常用來表示外加分類,[來源請求]所以複詞褒貶全依 [X] 決定,如「草莓*族」一詞就十分刺耳。不過,通勤族、開車族、家族等詞就沒有負面意涵。
