The “sweater curse” or “curse of the love sweater” is a term used by knitters and crocheters to describe the belief that if a knitter or crocheter gives a hand-knit sweater to a significant other, it will lead to the recipient breaking up with the knitter. In an alternative formulation, the relationship will end before the sweater is even completed.

Ahaha I knew this one, as a knitter. It’s a well-known superstition in knitting circles.

I’ve never made my husband a sweater but it’s because he runs hot and would never wear one anyway. I finally picked up sewing well after we were married and now I make him linen shirts instead.

I’d take a handmade linen shirt over a wool sweater any day.

Except with booties, the crown jewels of my wardrobe are the dinosaur booties a friend knitted for me.

Yes yes. This is the reason I’ve never knit anything for my husband (technically long term boyfriend but it’s been so long term and we can’t get married for reasons so we just call each other husband and wife) and totally not because I’ve been lazy.
