Sometimes poorly used quotation marks freak me out. This is one of those times.

News@lemmy.world•Warning signs appear on Mexican beach declaring area restricted by U.S. as Mexico rejects Trump offer to strike cartels
5·10 days agoEither the border of the United States is undefined in 2025, or the people “reporting” this story are completely spineless.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever met a truly evil person? What happened?
4·11 days agoIt took me WAY too long to realize how bad the most evil person I know is. To him, though, it’s not evil. As far as he’s concerned, everything he does is fair, reasonable, and justified.

1·11 days agoHammerhead sharks are unironically one of the coolest animals in existence

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Would you date someone that uses a hammer?
3·11 days agoDoctors are trained in using them safely, and in a way that benefits the public. That could make a difference.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do you need, want and/or have a gun/guns?
16·14 days agoGood for you. Laws are nice, but sometimes firepower is the best option for securing your rights - especially if you live in a country where DEI is sneered at.

48·14 days agoI think women would be happier with toys instead of these guys, too. It’s win-win!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who are some widely loved fictional characters that would be hated if they were real?
351·15 days agoWilly Wonka may not be hated, but he would definitely be vilified. There is no way a candy maker who refused to allow inspectors into his factory would be allowed to sell candy to the general public.
Plus, under the current administration, ICE would break in and forcibly deport (kidnap) all the Ommpa Loompas.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What old movies hold up because of a lack of special effects or because clever use of effects?
4·20 days agoTotally understandable, even to someone who counts this film as a favorite. It is very slow moving.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What old movies hold up because of a lack of special effects or because clever use of effects?
3·20 days agoShe’s walking funny on purpose. Those are meant to be some kind of velcro or magnetic slippers she’s wearing. She’s walking carefully because she doesn’t want to go drifting around in microgravity while carrying a tray of food.
That’s my interpretation, anyway.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What old movies hold up because of a lack of special effects or because clever use of effects?
3·20 days agoThis film is my go-to whenever anyone mentions visual effects. If I were a director, this would be my gold standard for absolutely timeless effects.
It’s more fun to play along, and unless I’m missing something, I kept it gender neutral.
I don’t think I can blame Anon. “Should we try it out?” isn’t exactly stirring my passions, either.
Under the circumstances, it sounds like “you’re my least terrible option left, so maybe I can settle for you. On a trial basis, of course.” Uh, no thanks.
This is wonderful. To me, “smart” devices are usually things to be avoided. I interpret “smart” to mean additional cost, more points of failure, giving up my privacy to “register” the device, and possible future incompatibility (especially if the company fails or is bought out).

SO glad I don’t have any Nikes. Up yours, Phil.
